In the media workshop at Art Camp 2024, we worked on creating video contributions
for the final performance. In small groups, the participants created various short films
that dealt with the overarching theme of youth culture. We used various methods to
develop ideas and create storyboards. We learned how to use the camera through
small finger exercises. In order to be able to implement our own project ideas as
directly as possible, we also dealt with film theory, i.e. cinematic stylistic devices
such as editing, music and sound, camera movement and framing. These stylistic
devices are used in combination to create the desired feeling in the viewer or to
convey the intended message. After filming, the students learned how to work with
the video editing program in order to edit the film footage with sounds and, in some
cases, additional image material into the finished film. One of the resulting films tells
the story of a vision of the future in which a social media platform is controlled by a
creepy artificial intelligence. In one of the other films, the world is ruled by a
mysterious cult. Inspiration for the stories also came from the grounds of the
Kulturkosmos. There are many fantastically designed buildings on the site that are
perfect for use as film sets. In addition, the final performance was filmed by
participants in the media workshop and edited together live. Just like a real TV
station.
